Gerard John Schaefer was a former Florida police officer and suspected serial killer who was convicted in 1973 of two counts of first-degree murder. Schaefer's second wife was named Terri Dean (formerly Teresa Dean), whom he married in 1973. She was also a police officer, and the couple met while working together in the Sheriff's office.

After Schaefer's murder conviction, Dean wrote a book called "Psycho Cop" about being married to Schaefer and coping with the aftermath of his conviction and sentencing.
